Steel I-Beams for Foundation Settlement

Steel I-Beams, also known as steel piers or push piers, are commonly used to correct foundation settlement. This process, known as underpinning, involves driving steel beams into solid soil beneath the foundation to support and stabilize it. Steel I-Beams are our preferred method for foundation settlement repair here at Basement Masters Waterproofing due to their strength, durability, and ability to withstand high loads.

How Steel I-Beams Fix Foundation Settlement

Installation: Our skilled technicians will drive hardy steel beams into the ground until they reach the stable, load-bearing portion of the soil. Typically, we space them evenly along the foundation at predetermined depths to provide adequate support.

Lifting & Stabilization: Once the beams are in place, we’ll use hydraulic jacks to lift, stabilize and repair the concrete foundation. This helps restore the foundation to its original place and fix some symptoms of settlement, such as sloping floors and cracked walls.

Load Transfer: Once complete, the weight of the foundation is transferred from the unstable soil layers to the steel beams, which are securely anchored in the stable soil below. This will prevent further foundation settlement and provide long-term structural support.
